Academics At CCA

Elementary (5K-5th Grade)

Each school day in Elementary begins with Bible class, a fun time of singing Bible songs. Memorizing Scripture, and learning Bible stories. Our teachers use the A Beka Curriculum flashcards to bring the lessons to life.

Biblical integration in every subject area is evident in our selection of academic curriculum. We currently utilize two premier Christian curriculums: A Beka Book and BJ Press. Supplemental materials are selected with care to enhance and complement the curriculum. Our students consistently place in the top 25% nationally on the Iowa Achievement test each spring.

Reading instruction includes a strong phonetic approach that enables students to build a reading vocabulary that enables the student to read high interest material quickly. Reading comprehension strategies are woven throughout Reading, History, and Science.

The A Beka Curriculum is based on traditional math strategies that build a strong foundation for students to progress well into middle school and high school math courses.

Students also participate in a wide range of Enrichment Classes: Music, Spanish, Library, and Art. Field trips are an integral part of the curriculum and are selected to provide grade-level appropriate content related to topics within the curriculum.

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Sixth graders join the Middle School area by experiencing the opportunity to select an elective class in addition to their standard Bible, English, Math, Science, History and PE classes. The use of BJ Press curriculum in content classes encourages critical thinking within a Biblical worldview.

Elective classes enable students to pursue areas of several areas of interest: Art, Choir, Speech, Computers, and Math Help Class.

High School (Grades 9-12)

We seek to challenge our students academically, but more importantly we seek to challenge them spiritually. Each student participates in a Bible class every day, and we combine grades seven through twelve each week for a chapel time. In chapel, students hear the Word of God preached and are encouraged to make spiritual decisions and commitments. Beyond this, every subject is taught in the light of God’s Word with His Word being the final authority in all matters.

Every year, our high school students as a whole surpass the nation’s averages in academic achievement. This, we believe, is due to qualified teachers teaching from exceptional textbooks in an orderly environment. Our program is geared toward the average student. As a general rule, however, we will have the average student performing better on standardized tests than average.

To meet the varied academic needs of our students, CCA offers three programs of study. Admittance to a particular program is determined by student ability, the career direction of the student, and parental input. Each program meets the requirements for graduation in the state of North Carolina. The three programs are as follows:
Technical College Program
College Preparatory Program
Scholars Program
Program assignments are coordinated through our Student Services office. Specific course requirements for each program of study are available upon request.
